Character Phrase

Follow the Rules/Follow Directions- We emphasize the importance of listening and following directions for their parents, teachers, and soccer coaches. We also explain that there are rules to the game of soccer and that the children need to follow the rules to play the game.

Soccer Skills

Dribbling and cutting. Dribble the ball using the different surfaces of the foot- inside, outside, instep (laces), sole (bottom), using both feet. Cutting the ball (or changing direction) using the inside or outside of the foot.

Reinforcement

Help your child understand the different surfaces of the foot. Encourage your child to dribble using the various surfaces of the foot. Also encourage your child to practice using both feet. Place various cones or other objects around and encourage your child to dribble in the space and cut around the objects using the inside or outside of the foot. They do not want to hit the cones with their ball.

Encourage Your Teammates

Soccer Skill

Score a goal/shooting technique: plant foot aiming at your target, ankle locked, toe down, strike the ball with your instep (laces), celebrate

Reinforcement

Make a goal with two objects if you don’t have one, encourage your child to score a goal using good shooting technique (plant foot aiming at your target, ankle locked, toe down, strike the ball with your instep. Kids love trying to score against someone- step in the goal and have them try to score on you. And of course, encourage them to celebrate when they score a goal.

Soccer Phrase

When your muscles get tired, your muscles get bigger and stronger

Character Word

Perseverance- when you get tired, keep going and don’t give up!

Soccer Skills

Passing the ball with accuracy. Key points: ankle locked, toe up, plant foot aiming towards the target, hitting the ball with the middle of the inside of your foot

Reinforcement

Have a pass with your child and encourage him/her to practice good passing technique (ankle locked, toe up, plant foot aiming towards the target, hitting the top half of the ball, hitting the ball with the middle of the inside of your foot). You can also set out cones or other objects and have your child pass the ball to hit the cones/objects.

I'm Fast, You're Fast

Character Phrase

Don’t steal other children’s soccer balls (In the Kinder Kixx setting, each child has their own soccer ball for the session. We are trying to encourage the children not to take other children’s balls).

Soccer Skills

Controlling the ball while dribbling, being able to start and stop your dribble on command

Reinforcement

What time is it Mr. Frog? This is a Kinder Kixx classic. Have your child line up with a soccer ball at their feet. You or someone else is Mr. Frog. Mr. Frog stands across the yard from your child. Your child asks “What time is it Mr. Frog?” Mr. Frog answers with a time (example: 3 o’clock). Your child then needs to take 3 dribbles towards Mr. Frog. Continue to repeat this as your child gets closer to Mr. Frog. If Mr. Frog says “midnight”, he chases your child back to the starting line and you start again. This game encourages ball control while dribbling and being able to start and stop your dribble on command.
