Pass and Trap

Character Phrase

Work Hard- We encourage the kids to work hard and do their best at whatever they are doing- school, helping their mom and dad or their teachers, playing, etc.

Soccer Skills

Passing and Trapping.  Because passing is one of the most important aspects of the game, we are emphasizing it again this week, along with trapping the ball, or your “first touch”.  Key points for passing the ball with accuracy: ankle locked, toe up, plant foot aiming towards the target, hitting the ball with the middle of the inside of your foot.  Key Points for trapping, or first touch: soft feet (make your foot absorb the force of the ball, like Mighty Ducks), touch the ball away from pressure, keep the ball close.  You can trap the ball with the different surfaces of the foot (inside is most common, outside, or laces).

Reinforcement

Have a pass with your child and encourage him/her to practice good passing technique (ankle locked, toe up, plant foot aiming towards the target, hitting the ball with the middle of the inside of your foot) as well as to practice trapping the ball and improving his/her first touch (soft feet or making your foot absorb the force of the ball, keep the ball close, touch the ball away from pressure, and using the  different surfaces of the foot (inside is most common, outside, or laces).
